Problem

Comcast customer was paying for about 400 megs down for speed. Speedtest results showed only about 234 megs down. Wi-fi in the three-level house was not as good as it could be.

Solution

By isolating different segments of the network in the house and swapping equipment, the slow down was determined to be the TP-Link router. A test router brought speeds back up to 400 megs or more for download.

For wi-fi customer was using Orbi mesh units. Because customer had ethernet port on all levels of the house in various rooms, recommendation was to replace Orbi devices with mesh units that could each be connected by ethernet so that each unit, one per floor, could act as a gateway. This would eliminate hops and increase speed.
