Ending Connectivity Frustration

Problem:

Lynnwood resident was frustrated with computer, printer, and WiFi problems.

Solution:

Worked through each problem one at a time to reconfigure and then provide educational guidance to the user. Verified along the way that the user was using 5Ghz WiFi band (which Comcast modem was emitting and laptop was capable of using) to reduce problems from 2.4Ghz interference.

Better WiFi with ceiling-mounted, cloud-managed access point

Problem:

Seattle Broadview resident wanted better WiFi in the house.

Solution:

Kitchen was in the middle of the house and undergoing complete remodel. Taking advantage of kitchen remodel when studs where exposed, had ethernet cable pulled for a ceiling-mounted PoE WiFi access point that would provide better, more consistent coverage throughout house. Additionally, had ethernet and coax cables pulled for wall-mounted TV.

When remodel was done, installed ceiling-mounted, cloud-managed Open Mesh A60 access point and configured to replace existing WiFi from router in corner of house.

Set up VPN for Live Eurovision Stream

Problem:

Seattle resident wanted to watch the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest live on May 13, 2017. Stream, however, was blocked in US. Customer had signed up for VPN (Virtual Private Network) service, but came up short on knowing how to use the VPN.

Solution:

Customer’s ASUS rt-n66u router was configured with the VPN credentials. All computers were able to plug into the router (or use the wifi signal), which allowed connection to the live stream using the semi-finals as the test before the grand final.

Networking Hardware Recommendations for FM Radio Station

Problem:

New FM radio station needed network hardware recommendations for getting up and running.

Solution:

After touring facilities and meeting with staff, provided list of hardware items for wifi, network segmentation (for VoIP phones, audio streams, production, and office support computers). Once construction done, install and configure the hardware.

Ethernet and WiFi in Remodeled Kitchen

Problem:

In Broadview neighborhood of Seattle, home owner wanted to remodel kitchen and add ethernet for wall-mounted TV.

Solution:

While walls torn down and studs exposed, suggested ethernet cable be pulled into two locations:
a) two ethernet cables and a TV coax (for possible cable) to the wall where TV will be mounted
b) two ethernet cables to middle of kitchen ceiling for enterprise grade dual-band WiFi access point (using POE — Power Over Ethernet). This would put access point in middle of house.
