Implement CenturyLink Static IP Block in Residence

Problem

Seattle resident wanted to implement static IP numbers from CenturyLink to segment computers and devices in the house into several different LANs (Local Area Networks), with each LAN having its own unique WAN (Wide Area Network) static IP number.

Solution

Resident could not get static IP numbers to work in the CenturyLink modem. Substantial research and testing suggested the problem was a programming problem in the CenturyLink system. After nearly 40 phone calls to CenturyLink support and 27 hours of time, the final three hours on the phone with CenturyLink support confirmed the problem was a programming error in CenturyLink’s system. The problem was an inappropriately programmed VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) setting in the CenturyLink system. The VLAN was reprogrammed by a CenturyLink engineer allowing the static IP numbers to begin to work. After that, separate routers for each of static IP numbers were configured and relevant devices connected to each router.

Diagnose Computer Connection Failures to Network Printer

Problem

Seattle business with several computers on a (LAN) Local Area Network would not connect to the primary shared network printer.

Solution

Examination revealed an old switch in the network closet with no documentation. Step 1: Replaced old switch with smaller, unmanaged switch. Step 2: Determine LAN IP # of the primary share network printer. Step 3: Configure computers to update printer drivers to correct printer network address.

Move WordPress Site To New Host For Denver Company

Problem

A Denver company needed it’s WordPress site moved from one hosting company to another. The commercial backup and migrate plugin (Backup Buddy) was not working. Nor did another plugin.

Solution

To accomplish the move, the database was exported from the old host and imported into the new host. Then, the many-thousand WordPress files were downloaded from the old host and uploaded to the new host. Configuration files were adjusted. Registrar DNS records were changed. Site became live on the new site.
