Moving Email from Network Solutions to Google G Suite

Problem:

Shoreline resident was unhappy with the email service provided by Network Solutions for his custom domain.

Solution:

Because the user already had a Google gmail account that was working well, using the email service available in Google G Suite made sense. A two-step process was implemented: move the domain into the Google Domains registrar and then signup for G Suite and setup the custom-domain email. As a part of the process provided the customer with narrated step-by-step procedures to create the custom email.

Boot to Alternative Operating Systems

Problem:

Customer wanted to insure the safety of his Windows 10 machine while conducting certain (legal) activities on the web. Some research would potentially expose a computer to viruses and malware.

Solution:

Two methods were implemented for the customer:

1. A bootable USB stick was created that allowed the customer to boot into a light-weight Linux operating system. This took the Windows 10 operating system completely out of the picture, preserving Windows 10 for his personal use.

2. Virtual machines were installed using Windows 10 as the host. This allowed the customer access to Windows 10 simultenously with the virtual machines and at the same time keeping Windows 10 isolated from the potentially harmful activities encountered by the virtual machines.

Internet Trouble Shooting

Problem:

FM Radio station was losing Wifi connection to Internet periodically. Station manager suspected it was the WiFi.

Solution:

Investigation showed the problem was not the major 48-port switch or the POE (Power over Ethernet) WiFi unit. Rather, the problem was in Comcast equipment. Comcast modem was losing signal to the outside node. With Comcast support determined best course of action would be to replace the modem.

WiFi Printer Not Reachable

Problem:

North Seattle resident with home travel agency could not print from Windows computer to WiFi connected printer.

Solution:

Investigation showed the correct password was used. After examining the router, changed WiFi encryption and printer reconnected and customer was able to print.

Audio Stream for Remote Monitoring

Problem:

Staff of a Seattle radio station were not able to hear the broadcast signal from home because of distance and terrain. Staff wanted ability to monitor broadcast signal and content when out of range.

Solution:

FM receiver and audio server were setup within the broadcast coverage area. Audio from receiver goes into server. Server makes the audio available to staff anywhere they have an Internet connection.
