Help Downloading Youtube Videos

Problem

Customer had paid for a virtual conference that included free access to the conference videos. However, the conference organizers were using a platform not conducive for download. And, the organizers had a hard time getting the videos, taking about 9 months to obtain them. Rather than put the videos on the organizer’s own website, the videos were put on Youtube with an unlisted link. The customer wanted the ability to play the videos without streaming (meaning no Internet connection), such as when in a plane. The customer wanted a way to download the videos, which he had a right to via the conference purchase.

Solution

The customer was provided a few options with a strong recommendation for a specific program that installs on Windows. Customer was able to easily and quickly download the videos for non-streaming playback. Each video was about one hour long.

MySQL Database Migrations

Problem

An organization keeping track of payments to authors requires quarterly database restoration tests. The restoration tests are done on a server separate from the live, production server for various reasons, including security, backup, redundancy. The existing server had limitations that prevented the addition of another restoration test.

Solution

A new hosting server was located and implemented that will provide long-term addition of restoration tests. Ten exisiting restoration databases (and associated front-end code) were migrated to the new server, then each tested and compared to the source.

Ethernet over Unused Cable TV Coax

Problem

Customer needed wired ethernet connection to devices. Pulling and adding ethernet cable was not possible because of physical structure and constraints.

Solution

At the end location where the wired connections were needed there was an existing end of a no-longer used cable TV coax. We were able to find the other end of the cable TV Coax in the basement and determined that a link from an ethernet switch could be made to the basement end of the coax. Adapters to link coax to ethernet were ordered and put in place. Customer was then able to connect the desired devices to wired ethernet.

San Francisco Musician Laptop Infected

Problem

The laptop owned and used by a San Franciso musician became infected with malware or a virus that prevented use of the computer.

Solution

Fortunately a backup of data had recently been done.

Rather than attempt to clean the computer of malware, the safest and most effective to be rid of the malware was to wipe the disk and reinstall the Windows 10 operating system.

Reinstalling the operating system required a search for and an installation of a disk driver so the installation media would recognize the disk. The search was done, driver was found, and the operating system was reinstalled. The reinstalled operating system provided a fresh, clean system with no malware.

Once up and running, the data that had been backed up was copied to the laptop.
